Short summary
Environmental research infrastructures are key to monitoring the growth conditions of environmentally sensitive activities. Based on literature and a case study, the paper reviews the main methods used for assessing the performance of infrastructures via their economic impacts. A framework is proposed for analysing assessment methods per impact category and by area of relevance. Further progress requires more data on environment and sensitive activities to improve the efficiency of the methods.
